Students with intellectual disabilities between the ages of 14 and 22 are eligible for the program.
Location, Days and Hours of OperationSTEP Ahead is offered year-round at:7400 W 24th Avenue, Hialeah, 33016
- The school-year program follows the M-DCPS calendar and is offered Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
- The summer camp program operates from June 9, 2025 though July 24, 2025, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
- Summer camp will be closed on Friday July 4th, 2025 in observance of Independence Day.
Our staff includes state-certified teachers, trained counselors and program leaders. There are CPR and first aid certified staff the site. Staff meet Level 2 screening requirements as described in F.S. 1012.32 (Florida Statutes).
Therapy ServicesAny family that needs to have therapy services during program hours will be required to have their therapist complete a volunteer packet with all required documentation needed by the Education and Community Services Division.
Job TrainingProgram participants have job training opportunities at various sites throughout the city during the school year.
Registration for After School and Summer Camp Program and FeesTo register please visit our office located at 5601 E 8th Avenue, Building 4, Hialeah FL 33013. You will need to bring the following documents to our office to complete your registration:

Parents are required to attach or bring the following documents to completed registration if needed:
- Copy of student’s birth certificate or passport
- Copy of the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Copy of utility bill
- Current photo of student
- Current report card
Additionally each parent will need to be scheduled for a program intake PRIOR to starting the program with either our Program Manager or Education Special Programs Director.
Program FeesThe STEP Ahead Program has an quarterly non-refundable registration fee is required for all participants for the afterschool year and for summer camp. Program Fees are shown below in the fees chart. All fees are flat fee payments regardless of how many days your child attends.
Please note that all payments for afterschool and summer camp will be done via our online payment system -CIVIC REC. All households will need to have an account that will be created at time of registration and all payments will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. There will be no more cash payments completed at the site.
Resident check- Residents show proof via utility bill and are considered residents with Hialeah Property tax code (04) via address. Please check your address at the Miami Dade Property Search page to see if you are considered a resident of Hialeah.

TransportationFree transportation is available from participating schools : Hialeah Senior Highschool, Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School, Barbara Goleman Senior High School, and Hialeah Gardens Senior High School to our program site during the school year. Transportation from the program site to the home for students is only available for students who live in Hialeah and Hialeah Gardens area.
During our summer program transportation is provided to and from the program for participants who live in Hialeah and Hialeah Gardens ONLY.
All other families who wish to have their child attend the program need to provide private transportation or STS services on their own.

FundingThe City of Hialeah’s STEP Ahead Youth Enrichment program is funded in part by The Children’s Trust. The Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
