Joint City / School Fleet Satellite Maintenance Facility

Joint City / School Fleet Satellite Maintenance Facility
Project Overview

At 46,000 square feet and two floors, this vehicle maintenance facility being constructed at 3316 S Military Highway will supplement existing facilities by providing much needed additional space necessary for important public services, such as student transportation, refuse collection, and snow removal. The building will be occupied by both City Fleet Maintenance and Public Schools Student Transportation Division in an efficient joint operation. Both will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on their vehicles, keeping school buses safe and citizen services up and running. Additionally, the building will provide space on the second floor for offices that will house the School Transportation Division, which includes school bus dispatchers.

The building will be constructed of high-performance insulated metal wall panels over a steel frame, with a pitched standing seam metal roof. The wall panels, in addition to providing a high level of energy efficiency, will also help isolate the sounds of repair activities inside the building. For even further efficiency, a geothermal system is planned for heating and cooling the facility. In addition, clerestory windows were added in the bays to allow significant natural light, increase staff safety, and boost morale.

The approximately 7-acre site has been designed to accommodate both vehicles being serviced and personal vehicles of the employees. Access to the site will be from South Military Highway where right-of-way improvements will be made for a new left-turn lane and removal of the feeder road. Drainage improvements will be made to the ditch systems that surround the property. A vegetated buffer yard and fence will be constructed along the adjacent residential property.
