The monthly solid waste collection fee covers twice-a-week garbage collection for one garbage cart per household, along with once-a-week collections for recycling and out-of-cart trash. Garbage and recycling carts must be in place by 4 a.m. on the scheduled service day—it is not considered a missed pickup if the cart is not in place by 4 a.m. Collection times on service days may vary.
Residents can enter their address on the My Government Services portal to find their garbage, recycling, and out-of-cart collection days. Solid waste collection will not occur on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day. If the holiday occurs on a collection day, services will be provided on the next scheduled collection day unless notified otherwise.
Residential curbside services include:- Twice weekly garbage collection. This includes bagged household garbage for one cart per household. Extra carts are available for an additional $7 per cart, per month; the additional fee will be billed directly through the resident’s monthly solid waste, sewer, and water fee bill.
- Once weekly recycling collection. Recyclable materials should be placed in recycling carts, not individual bags or containers.
- Once weekly out-of-cart waste collection. This includes bulky items, bagged leaves and grass, and yard and woody waste. Only resident-generated waste will be collected. No commercial waste will be accepted.
- Out-of-cart waste: consists of yard waste or bulk waste. A glossary of accepted materials and definitions of all types of out of cart waste can be found here.
- Bulk waste: items not easily containerized in a garbage cart, such as furniture, large household items, mattresses, water heaters, tires, white goods, lawnmowers, and similar items. Bulky waste should not be bagged.
The City-Parish’s collection policies are designed to support collection efficiency and improved service delivery to our residents. Residents should adhere to the guidelines below to ensure waste is collected.
- Garbage and recycling must be in a City-Parish cart for collection. City-Parish carts include the City-Parish seal and a serial number.
- Cart lids must be closed; carts with open lids will not be collected.
- Carts and out-of-cart items should be at least 3 feet away from other objects. Bags, bundles, and bulk waste should be in distinct piles.
- Crews will collect a maximum of 10 out-of-cart items per collection day; up to three of those items can be bulk waste or recyclables.
- Additional items will be collected on the following out-of-cart collection service day, or residents can utilize private contractors to properly dispose of out-of-cart and/or bulk waste.
- Leaves and lawn trimmings should be placed in bags for collection, with brush, branches, and tree trimmings in bundles.
- Brush, branches, and tree trimmings should not exceed 5 feet in length, 6 inches in diameter, or 40 pounds per item.
- Household hazardous waste is not allowed in carts or at the curb.
- Landscapers, arborists, and other tree maintenance or removal companies are responsible for debris removal. Residents who perform their tree maintenance or removal are responsible for debris removal services.
- Only residential waste will be collected. Curbside services do not include commercial, demolition, remodeling, medical, or eviction waste. A glossary of items excluded from the out-of-cart collection can be found here.
