The 2017 Bike+Walk Implementation Plan identified bicycle corridor projects on Chapel Hill St, Club Blvd, and Foster St / Corcoran St / Blackwell St as priorities to improve bicycling connectivity to downtown Durham, popular greenways, and the surrounding neighborhoods. The scope of this project includes the design and installation of on-street bicycle facilities and traffic calming along these three corridors.

DESIGN
Project StatusThe City of Durham Transportation Department has contracted with Mead & Hunt, Inc. for the design of bicycle facilities and traffic calming measures on the three bicycle corridors. The kick-off meeting for the design phase of the project was held in October 2024. Public and stakeholder engagement will begin in March 2025.
FundingThe City of Durham Transportation Department is using local Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funding to design on-street protected bicycle lanes and traffic calming on three corridors to fill gaps in the bicycle network in and around downtown Durham. Federal funding has been awarded through the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) for the installation of these bicycle lanes and traffic calming.
