Reimagine a place people can go when they are in crisis. A place where they are treated, not like patients but as guests. A place where support is provided rapidly and tailored to each individual's unique needs. That place is the Chesapeake Cares Crisis. It is a recovery and stabilization center similar to a hospital emergency department, but offering services in a calm and therapeutic environment.
Criteria for Admission(Housing crises alone are not considered a behavioral health crisis for admission. If you are in need of housing assistance, call the Regional Housing Crisis Hotline at 757-587-4202.)

- Voluntary
- Requires urgent intervention
- Experiencing an active behavioral health crisis
- Crisis assessment and safety planning
- Psychiatric evaluations, nursing assessments, and treatment planning
- Medication administration
- Individual and family therapy
- Care coordination
- Peer support
- Sensory room
- Therapeutic leisure activities to promote stabilization
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) collaborates with our local law enforcement agencies. Officers on the team receive specialized training to effectively deal with individuals exhibiting signs of mental illness and connect them with community resources.
